Portrait of the Head of the Publishing House

Dr. Richard Müller-Dombois was born on 22 December 1933 in Bethel near Bleifeld (Germany). The third son of Dr. Georg Müller, the head of the Friedrich von Bodelschwigh school, he is himself a flutist, musicologist, teacher, as well as arranger, editor and publisher. He studied the flute with Gustav Scheck in Freiburg, Kurt Redel and Dr. Hans-Peter Schmitz in Detmold, Aurèle Nicolet in Berlin and also conducting with Kurt Thomas in Detmold and Hans Swarowsky in Vienna, - musicology, sociology, literature and Romance languages n Berlin and Munster, where, in 1971, he obtained a Ph.D. First Prize for flute in the competition of the German Musikhochschulen in 1955 in Berlin. Richard Müller-Dombois was First Flute and Flute Solo of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra (dir. Eugen Szenkar and Jean Martinon) from 1958 to 1964 and permanent stand-in for the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (dir. Herbert von Karajan) from 1964 to 1968. He has been a lecture and flute teacher at the Musikhochschule in Detmold from 1966 to 1999. In 1986 he founded the ensemble "Die Detmolder Mozart-Flötisten" and the publishing house "Syrinx-Verlag" which specialises in flute music. Since 1986 he works in addition as artitic adviser and member of the Jury of the Flute Competition "Friedrich Kuhlau" in Uelzen. Since the year 2000 he is besides the editor and publisher of the original text complete edition of the flute compositions of Kuhlau with the series title "Uelzener Kuhlau-Edition".
